About Bournemouth University

Established in 1992, Bournemouth University (also known as BU) is a highly-ranked public university in South West England's Dorset region, United Kingdom. The origin of BU's predecessor Bournemouth Municipal College dates back to the early 1900s, which became Bournemouth College of Technology in the 1970s. BU transformed into a polytechnic institute in 1990. The institution obtained the university status and degree-granting powers under its current name in the year 1992. It has affiliation from the Association of Commonwealth Universities as well as membership of the Florence Network.

BU offers study programmes at two sites, namely Poole (Talbot Campus) and Bournemouth (Lansdowne Campus). The Talbot Campus at Fern Barrow in Poole, often regarded as the main campus, is home to the most important university buildings. The site has a doctors' surgery facility, a branch of Santander Bank, shop and the Students' Union building. The University Library is also located on the Talbot Campus. It holds a rare and unique collection of printed and electronic sources of information such as reference books, research guides, journals, databases and e-books that can be accessed by both students and faculty. Besides, the campus has several cafes, refectories and bars for students to enjoy good food and beverages.

Lansdowne Campus features a nightclub, several residence halls and six state-of-the-art buildings that house administrative and academic facilities of different faculties. BU International College is the recent addition to this campus, which provides a base for international students to gain the necessary subject-specific academic and English language skills. The university also has a 3G AstroTurf arena, gymnasium, medical centre, and several recreation spaces. It also provides confidential counselling, chaplaincy service and financial support to students.

BU comprises eight faculties and one school that offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in multiple disciplines of health, social sciences, management, technology, media, communication, business and science. Bournemouth University is a vast community of diverse cultures and ethnicities represented by 17,753 students from 125 countries of the world. The student body comprises a total of 2,610 international students. It has over 1,800 staff members on the roll. The university has a record of 93.3% of UK-based BU graduates getting employment or admitted for further study within 6 months of graduation.
