About Heriot-Watt University

Heriot Watt University is a renowned public research university that was established in the year 1821. The university offers a myriad of undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. It was founded as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, but with the introduction of the royal charter in 1966, the university gained the status of a university. It is one of the oldest institutes of higher education in the U.K.

The university has state-of-the-art campuses offering a unique educational environment in Edinburgh, Kuala Lumpur and Dubai. The main campus is located in Edinburgh spanning over an area of 380 acres with academic buildings, student residences, libraries, healthcare and sports facilities and the student union's office. The Dubai campus facilitates exchange programmes between the Emirates and the UK. The purpose-built campus in Putrajaya, Malaysia, is known for being the first 'green campus' in the country.

Heriot Watt University is divided into five distinct academic schools. The School of Energy, Geoscience, Society and Infrastructure offers undergraduate programmes in architectural engineering, civil and structural engineer, geography and urban studies, construction project management and biology. It also offers postgraduate programmes in civil, water and safety engineering, building, planning and urban design, energy and renewables, construction management, geoscience, petroleum engineering, marine, environment and climatic change and housing, real estate and social policy. The university's School of Engineering and Physical Sciences provides engineering degrees in varied fields, including chemical, mechanical, computer science, and electronics and electrical engineering. In addition, it offers Bachelor of Science in physics and chemistry.

Heriot Watt University has several notable alumni including the first architect from Ghana and developer of the port city of Tema, Theodore S. Clerk, president of Royal Academy Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, Swan medal and prize-winning physicist Iain Baikie, and CEO of Aviva Maurice Tulloch.
