This new full – time post is available immediately on a permanent basis.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The role

A position has become available for a Diagnostic Radiographer to join our friendly and supportive Medical Imaging team at the University of Exeter in a developmental academic post working in our research active group. You will be based at the idyllic St Luke's Campus, which houses Medical Imaging and our facilities including DR, US scanners, DXA scanners and pQCT. The University also has a 3T MRI scanner and PET/CT scanner housed on the nearby hospital site.

This post may interest radiographers from a wide range of backgrounds who wish to move into academia, gaining experience of teaching whilst undertaking research training in the form of PhD. This post comes with an associated fully funded part-time PhD studentship. You will be expected to split your time across five days, with two days per week spent on your PhD and three days per week teaching or undertaking work to support teaching or students.

Responsibilities will include teaching modules on our pre-registration Radiography programmes under the supervision of experienced academics. This role involves lecturing, running practical / clinical skills sessions, providing pastoral care and tutorial support to undergraduate students and undertaking academic administrative duties as required. Opportunities will be provided to support your research and educational development.

Medical Imaging programmes at the University of Exeter include the high- ranking BSc (Hons) Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography) programme taking in the region of 60 students per intake, two degree apprenticeship programmes and postgraduate provision including the MSci, in Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography) MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, MbyRes in Medical Imaging and PhD in Medical Imaging and our new MSc in Medical Imaging from September 2025. There is a supportive team working environment and development opportunities will be offered to assist the successful candidate in their role.

About you

For an Associate Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a MSc or equivalent qualification/experience; core knowledge relating to Diagnostic Radiography in order to teach and support learning on Diagnostic Radiography modules.
  • Staff at this level are expected to achieve Associate Fellow of the HEA within two years of appointment (if not already achieved) and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
  • Meet the criteria to be enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Exeter.
