The Opportunity

Are you looking for an opportunity which will make a real difference to the experience of students at Lancaster? We are looking for someone with an interest in digital accessibility and assistive technology to provide support to staff and students, and to those providing IT Services at Lancaster.

Working within the Digital Adoption team you will work closely with digital skills developers, accessibility specialists and learning technologists, primarily supporting training and support activities, helping to improve the accessibility of online resources and digital services across the University.

Due to the customer focused nature of the role, and the need to work closely with the team, regular on-campus working is required. You will have strong administrative, organisational and IT skills, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a good understanding on how to make accessible content, such as documents and videos. The successful candidate will also ideally have experience of working in a customer-facing support role.

Major Duties:

· To provide an approachable, professional support service for digital accessibility, including taking responsibility for enquiries, reviewing feedback, and dealing with support requests – either from staff and students, or escalated from other teams within ISS.

· To provide administrative support to the Digital Adoption teams, including organisation of events, reporting on feedback, managing the daily operation for the captioning service, assisting with training sessions and maintaining records of meetings and support.

· To assist with the creation of advice, guidance and teaching resources.

Required experience, skills & abilities :

1. Ability to present information in an accurate, articulate and appropriate format for a range of audiences (Essential)

2. Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff at all levels of seniority and technical ability (Essential)

3. Ability to be proactive when solving problems and understanding other people's issues or ways of working (Essential)

4. Ability to work in a team and have a flexible approach to work (Essential)

5. Ability to work to tight deadlines and working with others to produce results within project timescales (Essential)

6. Experience of writing technical instructions for a non-technical audience, ideally with a digital accessibility focus. (Essential)

7. Experience of supporting and training staff (either individually or in small groups) (Essential)

8. Knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and the issues that compliance with the regulations presents within an HE environment. (Desirable)

9. Experience of using a broad range of tools to test digital accessibility of services and assist with achieving compliance to the regulations. Ideally this would include experience of using captioning tools. (Desirable)

10. Experience of developing online training and support materials (e.g. how to guides or videos) (Desirable)

11. Experience of using tools for online learning, such as Xerte, Moodle, Camtasia etc. (Desirable)

12. Proven track record of personal development, preferably in digital or communication skills, customer service or teaching / training (Essential)
