  • Role Description Department

    The Department of Philosophy was ranked 2nd in the UK for its research in REF2021, with 100% of our research impact and 45.5% of our publications ranked at 4 (the highest grade). We pride ourselves on a working culture which supports Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and in 2020 achieved the Bronze Athena Swan Award. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to build on these and other successes.

    We have a healthy postgraduate community of around 30 PhD students and 30 MA students, and more than 500 undergraduates across multiple programmes, including PPE, Philosophy and English, History, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Sociology, Maths and Physics. There are 24 permanent academic staff. Our research and teaching covers a broad range of areas and approaches within the discipline, with notable strengths in philosophy of mind and psychology, ethics and political philosophy, philosophy of health, metaphysics, and the history of philosophy.

    Role
  • To develop innovative research objectives, projects and proposals in at least one of the following areas: philosophy of medicine and health, feminist philosophy, cross-cultural philosophy or philosophy of language.
  • To produce high quality individual and/or collaborative research outputs and research outcomes.
  • To design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules, including in philosophy of medicine and health, feminist philosophy, cross-cultural philosophy and/or philosophy of language. An ability to contribute towards teaching in PPE is desirable.
  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.
  • Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • PhD in Philosophy or equivalent experience
  • Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice
  • A proven track record in research, including high quality publications.
