  • About This Opportunity

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer to engage in research and work closely with our team to support the development and deployment of scientific applications via the https: // www. neurodesk.org platform. This position will be responsible for documenting Neurodesk use cases and developing new use cases with the community. The candidate will also be responsible for producing research outputs highlighting the new developments to the scientific community and providing training for users of the Neurodesk platform. At this level it is expected that the incumbent will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities. The candidate will be responsible for communicating with community members and managing community engagement.

    Key responsibilities include: 1. Research
  • Produces quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high-quality outlets.

  • Participate in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

  • Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Present quantitative and qualitative data from and about the community in appropriate formats for various stakeholders, including funders, collaborators, senior management, community members, and the public.

  • Develop neuroimaging pipelines and best practices for reproducible neuroimaging

  • 2. Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.

  • Effective lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

  • As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Working to promptly resolve conflicts and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Promote the goals, achievements, and value of the Neurodesk community to its participants and stakeholders and encourage buy-in and participation in programs and initiatives.

  • Identify, seek out, cultivate and welcome new members and establish new partnerships and collaborations; encourage community formation and development of communities of interest.

    About You
  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in the discipline area.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.

  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities

  • A strong desire to contribute to open-source projects and building communities

  • A solid background or strong interest in learning technical skills, such as Python programming, software container building, GitHub actions

  • Evidence of teaching experience and engagement with open-source communities

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education checks.
