We are seeking a Principal Engineer (M365) to join our Digital, Data & Technology Group.

About the role

The Principal Engineer role will play a key role in shaping and implementing the changes and improvements required to transform the service provision of technology services across the University.

Reporting into their respective ‘Head of' (Head of Technology Enablement & Support, Head of Infrastructure or Head of Platforms & Applications). This role forms part of the wider leadership team providing direction for the wider Delivery & Operations function. As an expert in their field, they will be responsible for the effective leadership for their technical and functional areas of responsibility.

The role will be responsible for engineering across a wide-ranging technology stack including on-premises solutions and cloud-based solutions. The Principal Engineer has the skills necessary to plan and manage all phases of work across the team, driving continual improvement, embedding good practices, processes, and methods.

As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible for effective operational IT Service Delivery within your area, ensuring services are managed in accordance with agreed service levels, standards and policies. Working with the DDaT Portfolio team the role will be responsible for the effective planning and delivery of the Projects within your area, ensuring alignment to the agreed organisational priorities and adherence to the agreed project delivery and assurance framework.

There is a market supplement of up to £7,000 available at our discretion, based on skills and experience.

About you

  • Managing Microsoft 365 projects from initiation to completion, including planning, execution, monitoring, and ensuring project delivery within scope and schedule.
  • Building sustainable relationships across key stakeholders and managing organizational change, particularly related to Microsoft 365 initiatives, and the ability to facilitate smooth transitions for end-users.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leading and guiding teams, including setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and recognising and addressing areas for improvement.
  • Having broad and deep knowledge of current IT technologies and their application in a Higher Education context.
  • DDaT New Starter Bonus In addition to the great benefits DDaT has to offer, you can benefit from a £2,000 New Starter Bonus. £1,000 is payable after you have successfully completed 1 years' service. The remaining £1,000 will be paid once you have successfully completed 2 years' service.

    Please note this bonus is only applicable to certain roles in DDaT and is specified on the relevant job adverts. Bonus payments will be pro rata for part time roles.
