Programme Manager - Research

Grade 9: £54315 - 62698

Oxford

Hybrid working (2 days WFO)

The University of Oxford is looking for Programme Manager to support investment in the digital infrastructure underpinning its world-leading research.

Oxford is world-famous for research excellence and home to some of the most talented people from across the globe. Our work helps the lives of millions, solving real-world problems through a huge network of partnerships and collaborations. The breadth and interdisciplinary nature of our research sparks imaginative and inventive insights and solutions.

The institution's Digital Transformation programme is reimagining the culture, processes and technology underpinning all it does. Working within the Research portfolio of the programme, we now have an exciting opportunity to join a newly forming team. As a Programme Manager (Grade 9), you will collaborate closely with the researcher and researcher support communities, system and process owners and wider stakeholders to deliver a focused but ambitious programme of works. Focussed initially on research computing, the role will in time likely contribute more widely to development of administrative platforms, data and analytics capabilities, research data management and more.

For the right individual, this varied and stimulating role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to our world-leading position, and the impact of our researchers on the world.

What we offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
  • This is a hybrid role meaning that whilst you will be based in our offices in central Oxford – and will be expected to come to site as required for key project activities and practice meetings – you will be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.

    About the Role

As a Programme Manager in the Research Portfolio, you will work collaboratively with the portfolio team, as well as with representatives from academic Divisions, departments and colleges, end-users, system and process owners and technical teams to identify, define, manage and implement change initiatives across the research communities.

Alongside demonstrable professional skills and experience, the individual will exhibit the curiosity, attention to detail, and proactivity necessary to quickly assimilate the direction of the portfolio and of the programme of works and to build credibility and influence with senior stakeholders.

    About you

You will be an experienced Project / Programme Manager, able to work across competing priorities and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders on progress, risks and opportunities, to inform decision-making. You will have strong financial and organisational skills; you will be able to work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and staff and you should have experience of managing resources efficiently. The post holder should have experience in navigating complex environments and working with uncertainty.

You will also have an understanding on the role that the technology plays and you will appreciate where shared IT infrastructure may offer opportunities to improve services and underlying processes.

    Application Process

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 25 September
