Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

A Research Assistant position is available in the Bhatia group starting in November 2024 at the Sainsbury Laboratory Cambridge University. The lab will investigate the mechanistic basis of the function of the plant hormone cytokinin (CK) in plant development using Arabidopsis thaliana as model. By integrating genetic analyses, including genetic mosaics, live imaging, cellular growth quantifications and single-cell omics, the lab will aim to develop cellular and molecular frameworks of CK-mediated coordination of cell proliferation and differentiation that shapes plant organ form. The candidate will be working in a stimulating scientific environment with ample opportunities to learn new techniques.

The candidate will perform plant management and maintenance, phenotyping, crossing, DNA extraction and genotyping, Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and molecular biology experiments including cloning (restriction enzyme-based, infusion PCR-based, gateway and green-gate) and quantitative real-time PCR. The candidate is expected to work in a collaborative manner with other lab members.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Plant biology, science, molecular biology or relevant discipline.

Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English are expected.

Previous experience in laboratory research and Arabidopsis thaliana handling is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively in the lab.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel is a prerequisite, and strong computer literacy is necessary.

Excellent observation skills are essential.

The ability and enthusiasm to learn new techniques is required.

If you are passionate about scientific research and possess the necessary technical skills, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
