As a Research Associate in the Coote research group at the University of Bath, you will help lead the research of an enthusiastic team of chemists, by developing methodology for the synthesis of the highly strained caged heterocycles azacubane and the diazacubanes - intriguing molecules that have never been synthesised before. The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust, and is available for up to 3 years.

You will perform both individual and collaborative research, write up research results for publication in leading scientific journals, and will have the opportunity to present your results at internal and external seminars and conferences.

You will also have the opportunity to supervise student projects, be involved in departmental teaching activities (if wished), and as a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

About you

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work within our research team.

You must hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, and have practical experience of synthesis and/or catalytic methods as well as an interest in strained molecules and target synthesis.

You will be responsible for planning and performing your own research activities and will be expected to take an active role in supporting Ph.D. and undergraduate research students within the laboratory.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work as part of a team and discuss your work with a range of audiences.

You should have experience of scientific writing and a breadth of background knowledge in organic synthesis.
