Position description

As a lecturer at Mälardalen University (MDU), your primary duties will be teaching. This includes supervision, examination, course evaluation, and course development. At MDU, research and education are closely intertwined, with research forming the basis of our educational programs. Collaboration is also an integral part of our research and educational mission, and as a lecturer, you will actively contribute to the university's development efforts. The position also includes general administration, professional development, and participation in the daily activities of the department and the faculty.

Research is conducted in three main areas:

  • Renewable Energy: Focus on solar and bioenergy and the integration of renewable energy into the energy system.
  • Resource Efficiency: Focus on energy efficiency, low emissions, and the recycling of nutrients and materials.
  • Digitalization: For energy efficiency and improved environmental performance.
  • We are looking for someone who feels they would thrive and fit in our environment. Your duties will include:

  • Teaching and taking responsibility for courses in energy engineering, focusing on solar energy, wind power, and sustainable energy systems, within our energy programs, the civil engineering program in energy systems, the bachelor's program in energy technology, and the master's program in sustainable energy systems.
  • Supervising theses and doctoral students in energy engineering and related areas.
  • Conducting research and applying for external research funding for projects within the department's research focus, particularly focusing on solar energy, agrivoltaics, wind power, and sustainable energy systems.
  • Contributing to the development of the subject and the energy faculty through active participation in seminars and other joint activities.
  • Contributing to quality development and accreditation work related to programs and courses.
  • Qualification requirements

    We are looking for you who partly have documented teaching skills and partly have a degree of Doctor, or equivalent academic competence or other professional qualifications of significance with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the duties included in the appointment.

    To be qualified for appointment as a Senior Lecturer you must have demonstrated the academic skills and teaching abilities required for the appointment.

    Teaching skills and academic competence shall be well documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.

    In order to be employed as a teacher at MDU, training in higher education teaching and learning, or equivalent acquired knowledge, is required. A person appointed as a Senior Lecturer but lacking training in higher education teaching and learning will be offered in-house training within two and a half years. The course in higher education teaching and learning at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

    In addition to the established basic eligibility requirements, according to the Appointment Regulations for MDU, some additional requirements apply to this position. For this position, the following eligibility requirements, in addition to those established in the Appointment Rules at MDU, apply:

  • Your research must be within energy engineering and renewable energy. Specifically, we are looking for one or more of the following abilities:
  • Knowledge and experience in solar energy.
  • Experience with research projects in renewable energy systems.
  • Ability to teach the subject at both undergraduate and advanced levels.
  • Proficiency in teaching and conducting research in English is required

    Assessment criteria

    The assessment criteria will be based partly on the degree of skill required for the position and partly on the ability and suitability otherwise required to carry out the work duties.

    In addition to the established basic assessment criteria, according to the Appointment Regulations for Mälardalens University, some additional criteria apply to this position:

  • Background in electrical engineering or equivalent, with knowledge of microgrids and energy system modeling.
  • Knowledge and experience with agrivoltaic systems.
  • Documented experience in teaching energy engineering courses at various levels.
  • Experience in supervising theses and doctoral students.
  • Experience with various pedagogical methods.
  • Experience in applying for external research funding.
  • Experience and interest in working in a lab environment and with industrial partners.
  • Interest in collaborating with the surrounding community and addressing its challenges in teaching and research.
  • In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities. All employees at MDU are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organisation and their own work duties and contribute to a positive work environment.

    Decisive importance will be placed on the ability to collaborate, both internally (within the subject) and with other teachers and researchers (from other subjects) as well as with actors outside academia. We also expect an interest in contributing to collegial development.

  • Quality awareness : Is meticulous and well aware of goals and quality standards. Places great importance on meeting these standards.
  • Development-oriented : Works to continually develop and improve the organization. Ability to see what needs to be improved.
  • Additional merits include good oral and written communication skills in Swedish or the ability and interest to actively acquire these skills and teach in Swedish within four years.
