To be qualified for appointment as a Senior Lecturer one must have demonstrated the academic skills and teaching abilities required for the appointment.

Teaching skills and academic competence shall be well documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.

In order to be employed as a teacher at MDU, training in higher education teaching and learning, or equivalent acquired knowledge, is required. In addition to the established basic eligibility requirements, according to the Appointment Regulations for MDU, some additional requirements apply to this position.

The applicant must have a doctoral degree in English with a focus on literature or literature didactics, or in education with a focus on teaching and learning through literature in English as a foreign or second language, or in a closely related field of relevance to the position.

Experience of teaching and supervision in literature- and/or education-related contexts is expected (within the subject of English in higher education).

Also required are an excellent knowledge of and proficiency in written and spoken English, including the ability to teach about and in the language and to communicate in it on an academic level.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria will be based partly on the degree of skill required for the position and partly on the ability and suitability otherwise required to carry out the work duties.

In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities. All employees at MDU are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organisation and their own work duties and contribute to a positive work environment.

As a Senior Lecturer in English the applicant must be able to work well both on their own and in collaboration with others, and is expected to have high social competence as a teacher as well as a colleague. The applicant must be able to take existing frames of reference into account, such as course syllabuses and previously employed educational approaches, but also to contribute with initiatives, innovations and solutions of their own.
