    Step into a pivotal leadership role as the Senior Manager, Human Research Ethics at the University of Queensland (UQ). This is your chance to make a profound impact on the ethical landscape of cutting-edge research, ensuring that UQ not only meets but exceeds its obligations under the complex web of legislation, codes, and guidelines governing human research.

    As a key leader within Research Ethics and Integrity, you will be at the forefront of managing UQ's human research ethics processes and supporting our human research ethics committees. Your expertise will be critical in shaping the policies and frameworks that underpin responsible research practices, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of excellence in research governance.

    This role offers a rewarding opportunity to lead a dedicated team, provide expert advice to senior management, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance ethical research practices. You will also oversee the development and implementation of educational initiatives that uphold and promote ethical conduct in human research.

    Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the Human Research Ethics team to deliver responsive, efficient services and foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.

  • Oversee the administration of human research ethics committees, including the recruitment, training, and support of committee members.

  • Provide expert advice on relevant legislation, codes, and guidelines to ensure alignment of UQ's human research ethics policies and procedures with best practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing administrative systems and processes to promote the ethical and responsible conduct of human research across the University.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that support and advance ethical human research practices across UQ.

  • About Research Ethics and Integrity

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) is a member of the University's Senior Executive and has responsibility for the development and advancement of the University's profile in research and research training. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) is supported by the staff in the UQ Research and Innovation portfolio. Units within the portfolio have responsibility to support the University's research community through strategic engagement with external stakeholders, funding organisations and research partners; international collaborations; grants management; research performance data management, contract negotiation; and research ethics and integrity.

    Within the UQ Research and Innovation portfolio Research Ethics and Integrity provides administrative and strategic support related to the University's animal ethics, human research ethics, sanctions, export controls and research integrity processes. Research Ethics and Integrity also provides advice, education and training to the UQ community.

  • About You
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in human research ethics and/or associated research governance processes within Australia.

  • In-depth knowledge of governance and regulatory frameworks for human research ethics, with experience in the operations of ethics committees in higher education or similarly complex environments.

  • Proven leadership skills with experience in supervising, training, mentoring, and managing the performance of staff.

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with a track record of providing clear, accurate advice in a complex regulatory environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver education and training programs, and to drive improvements in systems and procedures.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
