Senior Research Associate in Bioelectronics

Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Old Road Campus Research Building, Headington, Oxford

We are seeking a full-time Senior Researcher to join Professor Christopher Proctor's research group at the Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering in Headington. The post is funded by the UKRI BioEMat project and is fixed-term for up to 18 months.

As Senior Researcher, you will design, fabricate, and validate implantable devices that monitor the activity of the nervous system, and deliver electrical stimulation along with chemicals/drugs with precise spatial and temporal control as part of a broader UKRI project to develop new technologies to advance our capacity to interface with the nervous system. These technologies will be applied primarily in animal models with an eye towards translation to clinical applications. This role will involve leading, devising, coordinating, and supervising research projects, including providing guidance to researchers and students, and winning further funding to underpin the research.

You should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in fields such as biomedical, electrical, physics, or materials engineering, and have significant post-qualification research experience. Experience in the use of laser-based microfabrication methods and strong understanding of laser fundamentals is essential, as well as proven competence in microfabrication techniques for biomedical technologies. You should also be able to demonstrate responsibility for delivering impactful research as demonstrated by a strong publication record.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Christopher Proctor ([email protected]).
