Background

We are seeking applications from interested researchers who have been employed on one or more short term research contracts as a post-doctoral Research Fellow within the School of Health & Psychological Sciences (SHPS) for a period of 2 years or more. We are seeking to appoint 2 SHPS Research Fellows; appointees may be working full time or part time. Successful applicants will remain in a SHPS Research Fellow role for 5 years, after which time they will transfer to an Education and Research academic contract (Education and Research profile).

SHPS Research Fellows will have 80% of their time devoted to research, with the remaining 20% devoted to teaching. The emphasis of their research activities will be on securing further grants and fellowships, conducting high quality research and disseminating the findings to improve practice in relevant fields of health.

Responsibilities

The main responsibility of the SHPS Research Fellow is to focus on securing grants and fellowships to fund a substantial portion of their salary in addition to developing their ability to lead research projects and progress towards being able to lead a programme of research.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in a health related field, have relevant knowledge and experience in health and health research and will have completed at least 2 years as a continuously funded Research Fellow within SHPS. They will have experience in data collection and data analysis methods relevant to health, experience of engaging with stakeholders in health research (e.g. clinicians, members of the public, policy makers etc) and be familiar literature in the field where they work.
