About MRU

Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. Currently, more than 15,000 credit students choose from 14 bachelor degrees and 40 majors.

Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation.

Mount Royal University is committed to removing barriers and fostering the inclusion of voices that have been historically underrepresented or discouraged in our society. In support of our belief that diversity in our faculty and staff enriches the work, learning and research experiences for the entire campus community, we strongly encourage members of the designated groups (women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and diverse sexual orientation and gender identities) to apply and self-identify.

About the Department of Accounting & Finance

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in both Accounting and Finance. The BBA – Accounting major prepares students for careers as professional accountants in public practice, corporate enterprises and public institutions. Students can choose BBA – Accounting major courses to prepare for direct entry to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP). The BBA – Accounting program also includes an Honours Program and a Co-operative Education option.

About the Role

The TLEG Project Assistant will work under the supervision of Catherine Roy- Heaton, Associate Professor of Finance. The project goal is to create a rich learning resource to support students with their use of and with the integration of the Bloomberg financial data system into FNCE courses or for supplemental student learning. We foresee the creation of a robust D2L site by Spring 2025 as the shell for the resource, populated with administrative and unique Bloomberg resources for students. This project will result in a unique, MRU specific, curated and designed student resource.

Responsibilities

In coordination with up to 1 other TLEG Project Assistant, duties may include:

• research existing Bloomberg resources

• curating existing resources from Bloomberg

• liaising with the Bloomberg representative

• working with Catherine and potentially other professors to learn their course needs

• assist with the design of the new D2L (or similar) Bloomberg site

• helping create new multimedia resources

• organizing the resources

• testing the resources

• provide the student perspective on the usability and design

  • Other related duties in support of the project objective
  • Qualifications

The TLEG Project Assistant will ideally be in their 4th year of the BBA, Finance Major and be conversant with Bloomberg in advance of hiring, by either having already completed or who are in progress towards completion of the Bloomberg BMC certification. The role may also be suitable for technologically and financially fluent BBA students who are keen to learn the intricacies of Bloomberg and have sufficient knowledge of MRU finance courses (including but not limited to FNCE3228, FNCE4409, FNCE4410, FNCE4407 and/or FNCE3304) to support the development of this learning resource, once they complete the BMC. Finance students with a creative mindset, with an ability to work effectively both independently and within a small team, and who are keen to develop advanced knowledge of Bloomberg functionality are encouraged to apply.
