Job Purpose

The post-holder will support the University/College Learning and Teaching Strategy by assisting in the management, administration and enhancement of our Moodle-based Learning Management System (VLE), in support of courses and programmes across the Life Sciences undergraduate portfolio within the College of MVLS.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assist in the administration and maintenance of course Moodle pages

2. Provide support to staff on the use of Moodle and other University educational technologies

3. Liaise with the Life Sciences eLearning Officer to support the implementation of university standards for Learning and Teaching with Moodle

4. Evaluate and test online course content

5. Provide staff with advice on creating accessible content inline with the University digital accessibility guidelines

6. Create reports for evaluating the use of Moodle across Life Sciences

7. Become familiar with the appropriate university services, reports, structures and areas of work

8. Attend meetings where appropriate and relevant

9. Duties of the post outlined here are not exhaustive, the postholder will be expected to be cooperative and flexible and undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected by management. The duties of the post will be subject to review in line with changing requirements, both internal and external.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Knowledge /Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 (National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3) or equivalent.

A2 An interest in contributing to, supporting the University Learning and Teaching Strategy (2021-2025) objectives.

A3 Good IT knowledge with up-to-date knowledge of Moodle and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of the Higher Education sector

Skills

Essential:

C1 Basic understanding of Virtual Learning Environments (Learning Management Systems), preferably Moodle

C2 Excellent IT skills, including the use of Office 365

C3 Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

C4 Self-motivation, initiative and independent thought/working.

C5 Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

C6 Good attention to detail.

C7 Effective planning, organising and prioritising with the ability to time manage work effectively.

Desirable:

D1 Commitment to learning new skills

D2 Experience of creating accessible documents

D3 Experience of using learning technologies such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, ePortfolios,

D4 Some experience of providing advice and information relating to technology- enabled learning

D5 Basic awareness of HTML

Experience

Essential:

E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through related job roles or university activities

E2 Basic experience of Virtual Learning Environments (Learning Management Systems), preferably Moodle

Desirable:

F1 Experience of creating accessible documents

F2 An understanding of learning technologies and their role in learning and teaching

F3 Evidence of working collaboratively with others

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £25,138 - £29,605 per annum.
