Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with almost 22,000 students and over 2,500 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 4.000 students and 400 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Viken.

The Department of Computer Science offers three bachelor's degree programmes, a master's degree programme, and is part of a cross-departmental PhD program. Academic staff at the department are pursuing research in a wide range of areas including computer science, the natural sciences, and innovation and management. Both students and researchers are also involved in an increasing number of interdisciplinary initiatives across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has a vacant position as Assistant Professor in Programming.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Teaching and supervising at bachelor's and master's level, for example in programming in Java and other languages, and other subjects in programming and software development
  • Actively contribute to the development of the study programs at the department
  • Perform professional-administrative tasks
  • Qualification requirements
  • Master's degree or a university degree equivalent to a master's degree in a field relevant to programming and software development
  • General competence in computer science at a high level
  • Documented good competence in Java and other programming languages, such as Python, C/C++, and SQL
  • Good oral and written English skills
  • Persons who at the time of employment do not have sufficient skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be offered training in Norwegian, and must be able to demonstrate Norwegian skills at least equivalent to level B2 within three years from the time of employment.

    General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

    The following will be an advantage:
  • The applicant's teaching experience, pedagogical qualities, and motivation for teaching and supervision at bachelor's and master's level
  • The applicant's topical profile evaluated against the teaching needs of the department
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage
  • Experience from teaching and coordinating study programs in higher education
  • Experience from supervising IT projects in working life
  • Personal qualities necessary for the position
  • Characteristics that can contribute positively to the working environment
  • Good ability to communicate and collaborate with students and colleagues
  • Curiosity and a desire to develop yourself as a teacher and academic
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt teaching and research to the needs of OsloMet and the department, including interdisciplinary collaboration

  • The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian State main tariff agreements and OsloMet's salary policy in position code 1009 Assistant professor NOK. 509 300 – 646 000. For particularly well-qualified applicants, a higher salary can be considered. 2% of the salary is deducted to the State pension fund.
