About the departmentThe Department of Computer Science and Engineering is now looking for an associate senior lecturer (Assistant Prof., tenure-track) in Software Engineering. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is strongly international, with approximately 270 employees from over 50 countries. The Department is a fully integrated department with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The positions are placed in the Interaction Design and Software Engineering division at the department, with the University of Gothenburg as the employer.

Subject area descriptionWith approximately 50 researchers on all levels (PhD students, postdocs, and faculty) in the area of software engineering, we are one of the largest academic software engineering groups in the world. Our core expertise is in AI engineering, software testing, requirements engineering, behavioural software engineering, and software engineering in the automotive domain . Our research projects are often conducted using empirical methods, e.g., case studies, experiments, action research and surveys. We collaborate with industry and teach our students how to become software engineering professionals for both small and large software enterprises.
Job assignmentsThe Scientific Area for this call is software engineering, with a particular emphasis on the following sub-fields:
Successful candidates will conduct relevant research, apply for funding, and teach a variety of topics in Software Engineering; these may include courses such as introductory and object-oriented programming, advanced programming, AI engineering, and generally advanced topics in the subject area (software engineering). Candidates will also supervise bachelor level projects and master's theses, as well as keep up with the technical and pedagogical development in the areas of the position and introduce new methods in the curriculum. Further, as a faculty member, successful candidates will share the responsibility of the administration and management of the department and the educational programmes.
EligibilityThe qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 – 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in University of Gothenburg's Appointments Procedure for Teachers.
A person who has been awarded a Degree of Doctor in Computer Science (or a related subject), or has the corresponding research competence shall be qualified for employment as an assistant professor. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a Degree of Doctor or attained equivalent competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the appointment as assistant professor. However, those who have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or attained equivalent competence previously may also be considered if there are special grounds. ‘Special grounds' means leave of absence because of illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances.
AssessmentRegulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 – 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
You are expected to have expertise and to conduct research within the scientific area of Software Engineering. It is required for candidates to have conducted excellent prior research within the subject area Software Engineering. It is meritorious if your expertise lies within one of the subtopics mentioned under Job assignments above. Your application should describe how your area of research is complementary to the existing competencies within the software engineering research area at the division. Your expertise should be documented through a publication track record in relevant and highly renowned conferences and journals.
We welcome candidates with experience in educational development and research. You are expected to have high pedagogical skills and the ability to plan and teach new courses, these skills and ability should be well documented. Documented training in higher education pedagogy is meritorious for the position.
As an applicant, you must be fluent in English. It is an asset (but not required) to have good spoken and written knowledge of Swedish and to have experience in teaching and course administration, mainly from the higher education sector.
It is meritorious if you have documented ability to cooperate with industry or have experience in attracting external research funding.

Additional informationThis is a tenure track position. An Associate Senior Lecturer (am eng assistant professor) can apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer. If the Associate Senior Lecturer is judged to be suitable and fulfils the requirements for promotion, they should be promoted and receive an unlimited- term post as a Senior Lecturer. The applicant is expected after a three and half year's period to have attained a level of academic and teaching proficiency such that their competence to work as an associate professor (Swedish docent) has been or has nearly been achieved.
For promotion to Senior Lecturer requires knowledge of the Swedish language corresponding to B2GERS. The department is responsible for ensuring that time is given within the employment for participation in courses at level B2GERS.
The successful candidate will be offered a startup package including initial funding to hire one doctoral student as primary supervisor. Further, during the tenure track period, the division will provide at least 50% research time, as well as mentoring and collaboration opportunities to set candidates up for a successful tenure review and potential permanent employment at the University of Gothenburg. The department can also provide relocation services for international recruited staff.
