Base salary will be in the range $98,582 - $107,349 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 7)

The First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research (FNCWR) team is a passionate group within the School of Public Health, dedicated to advancing health equity for First Nations peoples. Through collaboration with health services, communities, and organisations, we deliver innovative, culturally-responsive research solutions to improve cancer outcomes and wellbeing.
We are seeking a motivated Biostatistician to join our dynamic team. This role offers the chance to work on impactful research addressing complex health challenges, manage and analyse large datasets, and engage with an extensive network of collaborators. You'll also have opportunities to establish an independent research direction while enhancing the outcomes of our cutting- edge programs.
Key responsibilities will include:
Manage and analyse complex, large-scale/linked administrative health data using statistical software.
Apply advanced statistical modelling techniques to address complex research problems.
Engineer and deploy statistical and machine learning models to support investigations and visualisations.
Develop and maintain version-controlled, unit-tested data analysis scripts.
Interrogate and transform raw data into analysis-ready formats for use in research projects.
Provide statistical support for FNCWR projects, including drafting protocols and ethics applications.
Assist with competitive research funding applications.
Review and implement best-practice research methodologies.
Lead and manage teams in alignment with the UQ Leadership Framework.
Expert knowledge of linked administrative health data and advanced statistical methods.
Extensive experience in health-related fields and data curation.
Advanced technical proficiency with STATA, R, and SAS.

About You
Completion of a post graduate qualifications in Applied Statistics in Health /Data Science with subsequent experience in health data analysis or an equivalent combination of relevant experience in health research and relevant education/training. PhD in Biostatistics or Applied Epidemiology desired.
A technical background with knowledge of the data processing lifecycle including data curation, modelling, architecture, pipeline and storage and analysis
Proven ability to support and develop staff, including other technical staff within a research team environment
Expertise in the application of relevant statistical software (R, SAS, STATA)
Significant experience of working with health related data.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct research documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of research and scientific staff within a research environment.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia.
