  • About the Role

    Located in the UniSA Whyalla campus, the Casual Counsellor provides professional triage, crisis and brief intervention counselling to individual UniSA students, including face to face, telephone and online services.

    The Student Engagement Unit (SEU) is responsible for the strategic development and delivery of student facing services that will enhance the on- campus and off-campus student experience to ensure all students, regardless of background and location, have an optimal university experience.

    SEU services include Orientation, Leadership Development Programs, UniSA Sport, Career Services, Student Life, Residential Life, Student Wellbeing, Student Counselling, International Student Support, Learning Advice, Wirringka Student Services and Access and Inclusion Services.

    The Student Engagement Unit is led by the Director: Student Engagement Unit.

    Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications to meet eligibility requirements for full membership of either the Australian Psychological Society (APS) or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Demonstrated experience working in a Counsellor role within a mental health setting, with evidence of positive clinical outcomes for individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in brief intervention services to a complex client group, within a fast paced, high demand environment
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis assessment and management with vulnerable populations, including clients who are a risk to themselves or others
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills appropriate to working effectively as a Casual Counsellor, including the capacity to work autonomously, efficiently and with flexibly with students as well as internal / external stakeholders
