Casual – Race Equity Advocate
Rate of Pay: UH4.14 13.04 per hour plus 12.07% accrued holiday per total value
Working Hours: Maximum 10 hours per week
Duration: Maximum 1 year
Race Equity Advocates will work with academic schools and Centre for Learning, Access and Student Success, (CLASS) to support them in their work to understand the experiences of students from different ethnic backgrounds and races as well as develop inclusive practices, both in the curriculum and as part of the wider student experience. Work may involve participation in workshops with academic schools, conversation with individuals, gathering perspectives from staff and students, the creation of resources and presentation of findings.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Dealing with data and developing inclusive practices
• To work with staff to understand and interpret data around different student achievements within programmes of study at UH and to develop inclusive approaches to learning and teaching and the wider student experience.
Meetings and Committees
• To attend specific meetings to provide Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students' perspectives, raise issues of concern and share good practice for ideas for change.
• To play an active role in the UH Race and Ethnicity Equity Student Success Working group and the delivery of any associated activity.
Miscellaneous
• To work on discrete projects and activities that aim to engage Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students within the UH community.
• To perform other duties as determined by the relevant Learning and Teaching Specialist in CLASS and the host academic school.
• The role will involve working with academic staff and students from across the University including Learning and Teaching Specialists, Associate Directors (Learning and Teaching), Deputy Director (Learning and Teaching).

• Minimum of 5 GCSE's or more at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent.
Other skills that would be beneficial to the role include:
• Experience working within diverse team (eg varied cultures, backgrounds, ages, expertise)
• Good digital skills including use of Canvas and Microsoft Office suite
• Confidence collecting, processing and presenting data
• Knowledge of contemporary issues affecting and of interest to students from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
