Base salary will be in the range $98,582.63 - $107,349.47+ 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 7)
Based at our St Lucia Campus
We are seeking a motivated Floor Manager to manage all aspects of the chemistry research facilities and research equipment at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience.
Key responsibilities will include:
Manage lab equipment/resources, coordinate space, ensure compliance, oversee common resources, and liaise with staff and suppliers.
Provide training, project management, shipping coordination, database oversight, and external user access.
Act as Floor Evacuation Warden, First Aider, Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator (WHSC), and support the institute as a UQ Drugs, Controlled Substances, and Radiation Safety Officer.
Participate in the Workplace Health and Safety committee, maintain Risk Assessment database, conduct safety inspections, provide safety inductions, and assist with staff training.
Train and support staff with compliance documentation, coordinate office infrastructure, oversee allocation of resources, and maintain databases.
Manage lab support budgets, infrastructure, assets, and act as the central contact point between research staff and senior management.
Due to potential exposure to human and animal tissue this position may require selected vaccinations. This position involves participation in an on-call roster that involves some afterhours work (e.g. responding to malfunctioning cryogen storage alarms, or over temperature freezers).

Salary packaging options
BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field and 3-5 years of experience in a chemistry research laboratory, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
Chemist with extensive experience in at least one of the following areas: research chemistry, synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field and/or work health and safety (WHS) in a reactive chemistry laboratory environment
Detailed knowledge of equipment such as HPLC, peptide synthesisers, freeze dryers, NMR, mass spectrometry, surface plasmon resonance, circular dichroism spectropolarimeters, solvent purification systems
Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply current WHS, OGTR and Biosecurity legislative requirements
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, including research staff and students, in the running of the research laboratories
Demonstrated experience with a commitment to excellence in client service and research support
Demonstrated ability to apply corporate procedures and policies to existing and novel situations
Ability to work under broad direction, in an efficient and well-organised manner, exercise independent judgement, meet deadlines, follow tasks through to completion and undertake complex problem solving
Effective written and oral communication skills
