Conservator of Easel Paintings

Be a part of something amazing...

The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is a department of the Fitzwilliam Museum and is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in paintings conservation and heritage science.

The role holder undertakes income-generating practical conservation treatments on easel paintings from start to finish: examining artworks to produce condition reports and cost estimates, advising clients on treatment options, deciding on the best treatments, carrying out those treatments, and producing conservation reports and any other necessary documentation.

We are seeking someone with practical experience and knowledge of a wide range of conservation techniques for paintings/painted surface conservation treatments, technical examination and theoretical knowledge of the material nature of easel paintings. They will also have strong communication and organisational skills with a willingness to work flexibly within a busy conservation studio set-up to accommodate the prioritisation of the teaching of students and interns.

In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check. Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
