Your new role

We are currently looking for a dedicated Consumer Fellow (Program Coordinator) to join our research team leading the Measuring what Matters to Australian Mothers (MMAMs) study. This study aims to develop, pilot and validate national evidence-based, consumer-informed safety and quality tools to best measure the experiences and outcomes that are recognised as most important by those giving birth in Australia.

Your responsibilities as the Consumer Fellow will include leading an experienced group of maternity consumers to drive project objectives and represent and advocate for the consumer voice at high-level strategic and operational project meetings. You will have the opportunity to value and acknowledge a diverse range of consumer experiences, manage consumer engagement, and act as a key consumer navigator to influence and achieve real- world impact.

This unique position adopts a strong co-designed, consumer-informed approach to ensure women's perspectives are fully captured to drive the development of world-first maternity care benchmarking tools to ensure maternity care meets the values-based needs of Australian women. This position is initially a fixed-term (until October 2025) 0.2 FTE (7.6 hours per week) with opportunities for extension, or a casual position.   • Contemporary personal lived experience (<10 years) of maternity care in Australia, and recent consumer advocacy experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience to effectively engage and lead consensus making with a broad range of stakeholders, consumer representatives and/or consumer groups to comprehensively gather, synthesise and advocate for a united consumer voice to directly inform health system improvements.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience to inform, influence, communicate and negotiate with high-level system-wide health system stakeholders and decision-makers to ensure the consumer voice/consensus is fairly adopted and reflected in project processes and outcomes.
  • Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated abilities, skills or experience in participating in elements of research-related activities, for example, literature reviews, data collection or interpretation, report or manuscript writing, or conference presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience or willingness to learn broad principles of project management related to project planning and delivery, budget management and reporting.
