Position Summary:
The HSI STEM Coordinator, Student Success & Engagement coordinates with our
learners to help them identify potential and emerging barriers to their
academic success. This position also manages support pathways for our learners
to access a range of holistic and culturally responsive student success
programs and activities. This position supports persistence and completion
goals throughout the Information & Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity pathway
from career pathway exploration (K-12 and beyond) to degree or certification
completion at Pima Community College. We are seeking candidates who are
passionate about guiding learners and helping to create a sense of community
and belonging among our learners as they enroll, persist and complete Computer
Information Systems (CIS) programs of study at Pima Community College with
integrated holistic, culturally competent resources that support Hispanic, Low
Income, First Generation, and Female-identifying learners. This team member
works closely with Pima Community College student support personnel, Grant
Program Manager, Academic Director and campus administration to meet the goals
and objectives of the grant, and to meet the needs of faculty and students in
the target areas and populations.
About HSI STEM Title III Grant
The purpose of the HSI-STEM - IT Knowledge and Context Grant is to increase
the number of Hispanic and low-income students attaining degrees in the fields
of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and to develop model
transfer and articulation agreements between two-year HSIs and four-year
institutions in such fields. The focus of this grant program is to attract
more learners and support them to persist and compete in the high demand field
of IT/Cybersecurity. This grant program also improves the capacity of our IT
and Cybersecurity programs of study to meet the high demand of employers in
our region for IT and cybersecurity professionals. The grant provides for
innovations in technology, teaching strategies and student outreach.
Continued employment in the position is contingent upon continued funding
through designated external sources. This grant is set to expire on
09/30/2026.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and will include working
evenings and weekends and local travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs and implements educational and career pathway support resources,
in collaboration with the HSI STEM grant team, by developing and
presenting hands-on content and activities for prospective and current
students through outreach events, enrichment workshops, topic-based study
groups, resume and interview preparation resources, and connection to the
resources of the Center of Excellence in IT & Cybersecurity
Collaborates with, and serves as a point of contact for, faculty, staff,
students, prospective students, businesses, agencies, local schools, and
the community to coordinate the range of student success programs and
activities that support persistence and completion goals for IT &
Cybersecurity students and provide support for students on college
processes and resources
Develops learning communities for IT & Cybersecurity students that help
intentionally foster a community of inclusion and belonging and that
promote success in IT and Cybersecurity courses by connecting learners to
support resources including tutoring, mentoring, and advising
Coordinates support pathways for IT & Cybersecurity learners in order to
provide holistic and culturally competent student support and connection
to a variety of student service areas such as outreach, academic advising,
assessment and testing, career services, financial aid advisors and
additional services that support social and emotional needs
Serves as an ambassador for the Pima Community College's East Campus
Center of Excellence in Information Technology/Cybersecurity and assists
with bilingual (Spanish & English) outreach and engagement for
prospective students and current learners in IT & Cybersecurity programs
of study in collaboration with HSI STEM Outreach Coordinator
Manages the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the HSI STEM
grant funded programs, including but not limited to, CIS Peer Mentor
Program to support current IT & Cybersecurity students to enroll, persist
and complete an IT and/or Cybersecurity program of study
Facilitates one-on-one meetings with IT & Cybersecurity students that
support student curiosity and engagement by coaching students and
implementing student feedback surveys to evaluate the student experience
and inform culturally relevant support developed by the HSI STEM grant for
students to realize their personal, educational, and professional goals
Markets and promotes academic success programs and career exploration
opportunities including: tutoring, mentoring, internship opportunities,
scholarship opportunities, business & industry job shadowing events and
HSI STEM grant activities offered to enhance the student success
experience, in collaboration with HSI STEM Outreach Coordinator
Researches internal and external support programs for IT & Cybersecurity
students and analyzes enrollment, persistence, completion and transfer
data to inform development of student success activities and programs that
reduce barriers and promote success
Advocates for developing collaborative solutions with Pima Community
College faculty and staff in a variety of support service areas to promote
college-wide student support resources and programs for Hispanic, Low-
Income, First Generation, and Female-identifying learners
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by
supervisor
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and
One to Three years' experience working directly with students in an
educational setting or student advising and/or success coaching or related
experience
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to
successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed
above
Preferred:
Three to five years of experience working directly with students in an
educational setting or related experience
Bilingual Fluency (writing and speaking) in English and Spanish
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and
abilities:
Experience in customer service, college & career navigation, and/or
success coaching and knowledge of advising and coaching practices
Demonstrated cultural competency and understands working with Hispanic
communities, including limited-English proficiency speakers
Passion for igniting curiosity and helping to guide learners through an
inquiry-based student experience and supportive environment to promote
persistence of student education and career goals
Experience working with and supporting Hispanic and First Generation
College students in STEM (Science-Education-Engineering-Math) related
fields of study
Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, excellent time management
skills and the ability to multitask
Using computers and software application programs (Microsoft Word, Excel,
Powerpoint, Google Suite)
Record keeping principles and experience preparing a variety of reports by
compiling and analyzing data
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with
coworkers, supervisor, and the general public
Experience in Information Technology and/or Cybersecurity in an education
or industry setting and/or knowledge of workforce opportunities in
Information Technology and Cybersecurity fields
