Deputy Operations Manager

The Workplace Services Team are seeking a Deputy Operations Manager to assist the Senior Operations manager (SOM) in the delivery of customer focussed maintenance and workplace services across the Cavendish Estate.

The Cavendish Estate is the home of the Department of Physics and consists of the new state of the art Ray Dolby Centre which is due to open in March 2024, along with 3 other research buildings and the legacy Cavendish II laboratory complex which is due to be vacated. The estate includes a mix of high specification complex physics laboratories, workshops, teaching classes, bookable lecture theatres, seminar and meeting rooms, and support spaces.

This role has a key day to day interface with the Estates division Senior Operations manager and the Department's Head of Cavendish Estate, who provides strategic oversight and interface with the senior research community.

The main duties of the role include:

  • Assist in the Customer focussed delivery of FM services
  • Assist in developing and implementing workplace strategies
  • Act as the deputy to the SOM within the Estates Division teams and functions including: Workplace Services, Asset Management, Building Surveying, Statutory Compliance, Health & Safety, Programme Delivery and Sustainability
  • Drive FM performance through SLA's and KPI's
  • Deliver high standards of statutory compliance and health & safety performance
  • Assist in budget management
  • Providing technical and FM guidance
  • This role sits within the Estates Operations Team which is part of the wider Estates Division.

    About You

    You will be able to demonstrate leadership experience, within FM and Workplace Services teams. Experience of working within a scientific environment is desired but not essential, as the role is a supportive position for the established SOM role.

    You will be able to show a real passion for delivering customer focussed services and understand the importance of the customer journey within a building or wider site footprint.

    For this role you will need to be an excellent communicator, who has the ability to adapt and think proactively, focusing on service delivery and customer needs. You must be able to display confidence in making decisions, whilst primarily assisting the SOM in the wider focused delivery of services to the Cavendish estate. Qualifications

    It is desired, (not essential with experience) that you will be qualified to:

  • Degree Level or Level 7 Business or Management qualification
  • Hold a recognised health & safety qualification such as IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent
