Diabetes Research Nurse (Fixed Term)

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research nurse in the area of automated insulin delivery (closed loop systems) in adults with diabetes. The research is funded by the National Institute for Health Research and other funding agencies.

The nurse will provide support for a number of multicentre research studies at the Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Responsibilities include participant recruitment, blood sampling, device training and general research study administration (arranging study visits, CRF completion, database maintenance, etc.). Flexibility in working hours to cover clinics and out of hours contact is important. The postholder will work as part of a team who share responsibility for patient care during the studies and a flexible and co-operative approach to working hours is essential.

You will possess good communication, organisational and IT skills, with thorough post registration experience. The ability both to work on your own initiative and as a member of the team is essential. Previous experience as a research nurse is an advantage but applicants with a keen interest in research will be considered.

Key responsibilities of the post:

  • Assist in identification of patients suitable for inclusion in clinical trials.
  • Approach, screen and recruit eligible study participants.
  • Provide information and support for participants.
  • Assist in closed-loop device training for participants and professional staff at collaborating sites.
  • Perform venepuncture and/or cannulation when required.
  • Arrange and perform follow-up visits, in-person and/or remotely.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant activities and collect study data as specified in the study protocol.
  • Attend team meetings and provide progress reports to Principal Investigator.
  • Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with an appropriate barred list). This appointment also requires NMC Registration and a Research Passport application.
