    The University of Queensland's Centre for the Business and Economics of Health (CBEH) applies economics and business expertise to inform decisions for better health outcomes. Through priority-led research and thought leadership, CBEH researchers analyse critical issues and influence improvements across the range of health and healthcare settings.

    The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL) and the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences (HaBS) – which as of January 2025 will formally be the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences (HMBS) – are jointly recruiting a Director for the Centre.

    CBEH is supported by the generosity of UQ alum Paul Taylor and his family, who sponsor the Director and Taylor Family Chair position.

    About This Opportunity

    As the Director, you will lead and manage CBEH to advance research, educational and consultancy activities with health organisations, service providers and academic collaborators in the Centre's primary focus areas:

  • Efficient and effective healthcare technologies;

  • Enhanced models of care and prevention; and

  • Future-focused health workforces

  • You will strive for impact in enhancing efficiency, innovation, effectiveness and equity in healthcare systems, and examining the effects of economic and social factors and the behaviour of individuals organisations and institutions on health.

    This is a prestigious endowed position that provides a permanent source of funding to further research towards an economically sustainable healthcare system and improved population health and wellbeing. It is an exceptional opportunity for an outstanding research leader to champion the contributions of business and economics to enhancing health practice and performance, with a strong focus on translational impact, in Australia.

    Key responsibilities as the Director include, but are not limited to:

  • Research Leadership : Innovate and manage the Centre's strategic initiatives, enhance research strengths, foster collaborations, set performance standards, and secure funding.

  • Teaching Excellence : Work with the BEL and HMBS Faculties to translate the knowledge and expertise of CBEH researchers into relevant academic teaching programs and oversee the development of short courses and/or executive education programs administrated by CBEH or its partners.

  • Supervision and Development : Guide a multidisciplinary team of researchers and professionals to enhance the University's research impact in health economics and business. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities, facilitate internal and external engagement

  • Citizenship and Service : Exemplify UQ values, build strategic relationships, and represent the Centre in committees and networks.

    About You

    We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record in partnership building and successful entrepreneurial and innovative approaches in alliance with either the private or public sectors, or both. You will have recognition as a leading authority in a field of expertise relevant to the centres research areas.

    In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of successful development and implementation of strategies that create a strong external profile with industry, government and other research organisations, nationally and internationally. You will have strategic skills including the ability to develop, articulate and sustain a shared vision and to implement it to achieve real outcomes.

    The Director will have a demonstrable capacity to work effectively with senior colleagues across the university, and within governance frameworks (including committee and board structures), informing decision-making processes as part of a management team.

    What We Can Offer

    The Director and Taylor Family Chair role is a full-time, fixed term position for five (5) years at Research Academic Level E. A continuing, underlying Professorial position may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

    An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Terms and conditions of employment, such as strategic start-up packages, will also be negotiated.

    The base full-time equivalent salary will start from $208,288 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will start from $243,697 per annum.

    Relocation

    The University will meet all reasonable removal and establishment expenses. In the case of an interstate or international appointee, an accommodation allowance may be available for a limited period. Details will be negotiated as part of the contract of employment.
