Position Summary

The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine's Office of Continuing Medical Education invites applications for the position of Continuing Medical Education Director. The Office of Continuing Medical Education resides within the College of Human Medicine and has provided continuing medical education activities since 1976. The college is a community-based medical school with campuses across Michigan including East Lansing, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Upper Peninsula, Flint, Midland, southeast Michigan, and Detroit.

The Office of Continuing Medical Education serves four major functions: accreditation of the program and activities by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME); accreditation services such as reviewing, making recommendations, and approving activity proposals put forth by the Activity Directors; activity development and planning of certified activities for college faculty, community and national physicians and other health care providers; and maintains records and files for all accredited activities.

Reporting to the college's Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director of CME will provide leadership for the Continuing Medical Education Program. The Director will enhance the educational offerings for the college and other external partners across the State. The Director is responsible for all elements required to retain accreditation status with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education as a continuing medical education provider.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or a Ph.D. equivalent

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree such as a Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or a Ph.D. equivalent. In addition, candidates should have experience with college level program management; demonstrated record on managing large and multifaceted projects; leadership experience; scholarship; and experience with continuing medical education or faculty development design and implementation.

Desired Qualifications

The desired candidate will have strong program management, writing skills, experience in business development and cultivating effective working relationships with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will display creativity and innovation to meet and exceed goals and experience in event planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating continuing education activities. Experience interpreting accreditation regulations, providing guidance and advice to staff and planning committees in activity development and implementation is helpful.
