  • About This Opportunity

    The Australian Research Council (ARC) Advance Timber Hub, administered by UQ's School of Civil Engineering, is seeking a motivated and dynamic Engagement and Events Coordinator who will support the Research Hub Manager with the end-to-end delivery of the World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE 2025), being held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on the 22 - 26 June 2025.

    They will also contribute to the implementation of the ARC Advance Timber Hub's communications, strategic plan and creation of impact, whilst supporting the focal event for impact, the WCTE 2025.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Engagement and Communication

  • Ensure appropriate and timely advertising and promotion of engagement initiatives through all relevant channels, e.g. websites, print and email invitations, newsletters, staff news, external websites, social media etc.

  • Ensure the Research Hub presents a relevant, consistent and integrated message and brand to stakeholders – external and internal – by adhering to University policy and ARC Advance Timber Hub style guides.

  • Work collaboratively with communications staff at School, Institute, Faculty and University levels and ensure that the Hub's communications activities complement those of its university partners.

  • Build relationships nationally with Hub researchers, students and professional staff.

  • Develop and implement annual communication and engagement strategy in-line with the Hub's strategic plan.

  • Report on communication activities to the ARC Advance Timber Hub's Executive Management Committee.

  • Proactively research, develop and identify content for media releases, news items, researcher and student profiles, web communication and external forums as relevant to the Hub.

  • Organise marketing and promotional activities for Hub conferences and other events as required, working collaboratively with all Hub partners.

  • Events

  • Liaise with external suppliers to negotiate the best outcome for all aspects of the events including venue hire, catering, photography, audio visual requirements etc.

  • Ensure that event and program messaging and branding aligns with the strategic goals of advancement and the university.

  • Provide project and administrative support, including monitoring and reporting on plans, milestones and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are aligned with project plans.

  • Attend the WCTE 2025 and support the exhibitors, speakers and delegates throughout the conference.

  • Travel and Out of Hours Work

  • Attend events or functions outside normal business hours as required, which may require some work on weekends

  • Some event-related travel may be required from time to time.

  • This is a part-time (60%), fixed-term position for up to 12 months.

    At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

    About You
  • Degree in event management, design, communications, journalism or a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience in a similar role; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage high quality events and activities of different scales for a range of different audiences within designated budgets.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships at all levels, and liaise with stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes. Prior experience engaging and communicating with the Indigenous community is highly desirable.

  • Highly effective organisational and planning skills including excellent attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to use initiative, prioritise own workload, solve problems and meet strict deadlines.

  • Demonstrated high level of computer competency, including experience in using Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Creative Suite, email management systems (i.e. Mailchimp), web content management systems, and social media management sites.

  • Demonstrated high-level written skills, including the ability to write for different audiences and edit copy for short publications, advertising, social media and the web with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
