Outline
The First Nations Social and Emotional Wellbeing Scholarship supports a UNSW student to undertake research at the Black Dog Institute.

Value

The scholarship comprises:

  • A stipend of $50,291 per year for a maximum of 2 years for the Masters program.
  • A Career Development Fund
    • $10,000 for the Masters program ($5,000 per annum for 2 years).
    • Access to comprehensive First Nations specific Research Training and Career Development program
    • Access to training in First Nations specific research methodology
Eligibility

To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in an eligible UNSW degree program and must be commencing postgraduate coursework study in the Master of Public Health (Extension) MPH(E)
  • Be an Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander only)
Selection

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Academic merit
  • Interest in a research and/or academic career in mental health and suicide prevention
  • Brief research proposal
  • Evidence of research output/experience
  • Statement by applicant on how their output will contribute to the relevant field

UNSW Scholarships work in partnership with the Office of the PVC Indigenous and Nura Gili, Centre for Indigenous Programs. In some cases UNSW may prioritise Indigenous students for Equity scholarships. While Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity is unique and sacred to every person, UNSW scholarships prioritising Indigenous students will require proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage. If you have not already provided proof of identity and heritage to Nura Gili, any Indigenous specific scholarship offer made by UNSW Scholarships will be conditional upon receipt of proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage to Nura Gili as outlined on the Nura Gili website.
