An opportunity has arisen for a Germ-Free Support Technician to join our motivated and friendly Germ-Free team within a busy state-of-the-art Biofacility in South Cambridge.
The Germ-Free Support Technician provides a valuable daily service to ensure the smooth operation of the Germ-Free barrier, as well as the adjacent biomedical barriers and service areas, within the facility with the essential provision of cages and equipment, consumables and other stock to meet the requirements of staff and researchers.
After initial training the role holder will be able to prepare, clean, sterilise and maintain animal caging and associated equipment which comply with Germ-Free standards and will be able to operate simple machinery to carry out varying sterilisation methods and techniques. The role holder will complete general portering duties, primarily the preparation and distribution of autoclavable drums, caging, equipment, consumables and scrubs for the Germ- Free barrier. The role holder will be expected to communicate with internal and external team members to ensure the supply and distribution of clean, sterile equipment to adjacent barriers and service areas is maintained. The role holder will also complete general cleaning of the barrier, service and procedural areas and will be required to maintain stringent cleaning routines throughout the barrier. The role holder will ensure the storage and disposal of waste materials, including Containment Level 2, are disposed of appropriately and will be required to order, maintain and provide advice on stocking levels of consumables and equipment.
This fast paced role is physically demanding requiring regular and repetitive movements including lifting, carrying and manual dexterity for which training will be given. The role holder is required to be conscientious, diligent, self-motivated and hardworking with the ability to communicate clearly. This includes being able to demonstrate literacy, numeracy, as well as accuracy with great attention to detail. The ability to work in a clean and organised way will be advantageous and in addition the role holder will, on occasion, be required to manage their own time and workload.
