We have an exciting opportunity for an Imaging and Spatial Omics Assistant to join the Advanced Microscopy team in the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute. CSCI is a world-leading centre for stem cell research based in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

We are a friendly team who provide comprehensive bio-imaging facilities to researchers throughout the CSCI and wider Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We cover a broad range of imaging techniques including widefield, confocal, spinning disc, light sheet and electron microscopy. We are now working to establish and integrate spatial omics technologies into our services as part of a collaborative hub.

Your core responsibilities will be to ensure that imaging systems within the facility are well-maintained and to train users to set up and use them correctly and safely. You will be responsible for instrument QC, troubleshooting and advising researchers on bioimaging and experimental design. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Histology and Next Generation Sequencing core facilities to develop and support a spatial omics pipeline, taking primary responsibility for associated equipment within the Advanced Microscopy Facility including an Akoya Biosciences Phenocycler and 10x Genomics Xenium. You will also be part of the team supporting work for the Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC), a new collaboration between Cambridge and GSK that is focused on renal and respiratory diseases.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working cooperatively, is skilled at training others and has a genuine enthusiasm for microscopy. We take pride in offering an approachable and professional service to researchers so excellent communication skills are essential. You must also be able to work independently, managing your own time and keeping accurate records.

You will ideally be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a biological science, with experience of providing a service in a core facility environment or support role. Experience of confocal and widefield imaging of biological samples is essential, together with knowledge of spatial omics technologies. Experience with the 10x Xenium platform would be highly desirable.

This is a full-time role of 36.5 hours per week.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
