  • About the Role

    This position supports the delivery of effective and innovative information technology network services, both across the university and to external clients, to support teaching, learning and research.

    The information technologist supports and trouble-shoots the Network Service environment and engages and communicates with the Manager: Network Services, ISTS Senior Information Technologists and University staff, to ensure appropriate network solutions and services are delivered to meet business needs and objectives.

    The Information Technologist works closely with IT staff at all levels and across all platforms as required to promote policy and develop strategies relating to the Network Services environment.

    Information Strategy and Technology Services (ISTS) , is responsible for the strategic and operational provision of UniSA's considerable IT infrastructure and services with approximately 150 staff working in 9 key areas.

    The University's Network Services environment provides the underlying resources for data, video and telephony services that support the University's core business of Teaching, Learning, and Research.

    The network is based on best practice enterprise architecture consisting of Access, Distribution and Core layers, each performing a role in providing aggregation and services to the network. In addition to the standard model, two interconnected Data Centres provide a further aggregated core layer.

    Based on industry standard hardware, software and protocols the Network environment includes:

  • building distribution and local on-campus wired network
  • wireless access across all campuses
  • on-campus MPLS core network
  • firewalls and Internet gateway security
  • load balancing services
  • wide-area inter-campus links
  • authentication and authorisation services
  • remote access services using Virtual Private Networks (VPN) connections for off-site users
  • voice systems
  • The converged real-time data network (voice, video and data) forms a vital part of the University's IT infrastructure which has a target uptime of 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

    The Information Technologist is an integral part of the team in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the University's Network Services environment.

    Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (normally a degree) or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, significant experience and skills as well as a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Substantial experience in the development and support of enterprise information systems within a complex networked computing environment comparable to the University
  • Demonstrated understanding of the technical operation of voice systems, including fixed phones, mobile phones, voicemail systems and VoIP based PABXs
  • Demonstrated ability to apply logical and creative problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated skills in personal time management and the ability to maintain productivity with minimum supervision
