Junior Group Leader positions
Call for Early Career Cancer Researchers with or applying for external fellowship funding to establish their first independent laboratory at the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute and School of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow.
Together, the CRUK Scotland Institute and School of Cancer Sciences comprise one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, situated in Glasgow and hosting approximately 400 talented researchers at various career stages, including several Junior Group Leaders.
The Institute is renowned for world-class in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis and have an excellent reputation for cutting-edge fundamental and translational research in our three key strategic areas: biology of early disease; energetic stress / cancer metabolism; and microenvironment / metastasis.
The School of Cancer Sciences is closely allied with the CRUK Scotland Institute, supported by numerous external grants and the Cancer Research UK Scotland Centre.
The School's main site is the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre, housing clinical, translational and basic scientists focussed on patient centred research seeking to transform cancer outcomes, with outposts located at the Paul O'Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre, Gartnavel Hospital and the Glasgow Tissue Research Facility at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
We pride ourselves on a highly collaborative research environment fostered by our outstanding state of the art advanced imaging, proteomic, metabolomic and spatial profiling technologies and expertise, to which successful candidates will have full access.
Our overarching research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability and integrity. The diversity of our staff and students is also what makes both the Institute and the School vibrant places to work, with the opportunity to contribute to advanced discoveries in cancer research. Family friendly policies, our collaborative ethos, a focus on good mental health and well-being and opportunities for all help to create an enjoyable and inclusive workplace where your voice matters.
We are keen to strengthen and diversify our network of Early Career Researchers in independent positions at the CRUK Scotland Institute and the School of Cancer Sciences. We are therefore inviting applications from talented individuals with aspirations to become an independent Junior Group Leader within leading cancer research facilities and establish a programme of research that aligns with key strategic areas and enriches our current research efforts. You will be a highly motivated research scientist, on track to establish yourself, and have ambitions to become a future leader in your field of cancer research. Candidates are required to hold or apply for fellowship funding such as CRUK, Wellcome Trust, UKRI and ERC. Expert guidance, mentoring and support will be provided, as part of the process.
The successful applicant must have the following:
