Job descriptionDue to the increased number of scientific staff members, together with a growth in the number of activities in the laboratories, the Control Systems group of the Department of Electrical Engineering is looking to expand its technical support staff.
The Control Systems (CS) group, , provides education for various Bachelor and Master degree programs (including Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Systems & Control and the Artificial Intelligence & Engineering Systems programs) and conducts research into modeling and controlling of complex dynamical systems. This includes artificial intelligence, control for high-precision mechatronic systems, autonomous vehicles, drones, and robots, modeling and data-based control for industrial processes and energy management systems for e-mobility applications including battery modelling, etc.
The group has two laboratories where it realizes and maintains (i) (PhD)research prototype setups, (ii) experimental setups which students use in courses provided by the CS group and (iii) test setups that students build and use for their Bachelor Final Project, Internship or Master thesis work and (iv) setups that are exclusively used for research and development. The lab is very dynamic, with constant requests for updates and extensions of existing setups, as well as the need for realizing new setups. .
Currently the labs include a high-precision linear motor, a moving magnet planar actuator, a 3-axis wire bonder,a 3D food printer, battery cyclers with climate chambers, drones, autonomous vehicles, and various setups supporting teaching of basic and advanced control theory. CS strives to use the latest technologies within their labs to provide a challenging research environment for both industrial partners and students. Please see the link Control Systems labs for a detailed impression.
As a lab engineer you will be the central person leading the design, realization and maintenance of new lab setups and extensions/modifications of the existing ones. You will often do your work in a co-development setting with the CS-group scientific staff and PhD researchers, but also often including, for example, industrial partners and the university Equipment and Prototyping Center. You will introduce students to our setups and lab safety regulations, and support them running their experiments. You will share the lab responsibilities with two other engineers who have a part-time involvement in the lab.
Job requirementsWe are looking for an enthusiastic, broadly oriented (junior) Engineer who will grow into an independently operating colleague, matching the following profile:
