Earth Sciences at The University of Adelaide invites applications for a continuing Level B academic position in critical minerals geoscience. Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in one or more earth science fields related to critical mineral ore systems, including (but not limited to), economic geology, mineralogy, geochemistry, igneous and metamorphic petrology, structural geology, geodynamics, and earth surface processes.

Earth Sciences at The University of Adelaide has a renowned teaching program from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, built on a foundation of hands-on teaching practices. Earth Sciences has major research strengths in critical minerals geology, crustal processes and tectonics, and biogeochemical earth systems. These research strengths are underpinned by an extensive portfolio of world-class analytical and computational facilities and laboratories that support a vibrant postgraduate research community, and research partnerships spanning academia, government and the resources industry.

The successful applicant will be involved in both research and teaching within this dynamic department. They should have a strong research track record in one or more of the aforementioned areas of expertise. They will be a key member of the Australian Critical Minerals Research Centre , and as such will be expected to develop a vigorous externally-funded research program, including supervising honours and postgraduate research students. The successful applicant will be encouraged to collaborate in multidisciplinary research programs with individuals or groups in the department, university, nationally and internationally. The successful applicant will be involved in delivering a quality teaching program at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels, and will be expected to contribute to developing new courses and programs. They should be capable of teaching a broad range of geological subjects, in the classroom, laboratory, field environments and virtually.

The preference is for the position to be filled full-time and flexible work arrangements can be organised. Candidates will be assessed on their performance and abilities relative to opportunity. Applications from female and non-binary candidates only will be accepted.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Earth Sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate-level Earth Science or related discipline; in classroom, laboratory, field environments and virtually.
  • Demonstrated research excellence and interest in geoscience applied to critical mineral ore systems, including a publication record in highly regarded scientific journals.
  • A track record of successful engagement and research collaboration with industry and/or government institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in addition to working effectively as a member of a research team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organisational skills and ability to forge collaborative relationships and engage others.
