The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton is seeking a Lecturer or Associate Professor in Active Control. We are open to applicants from various disciplines around Active Control, including but not limited to:

  • Active Vibration Control
  • Active Noise Control
  • Smart Structures
  • Acoustic Signal Processing
  • Advanced noise and vibration control technologies
  • The ISVR is a world-leading research and teaching institute with a long history of innovation in sound and vibration. We have excellent experimental facilities and are currently investing in refurbishing our research facilities and teaching laboratories.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in acoustics, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, and a proven track record of publishing high-quality journal papers. Ideally, you will have already demonstrated the ability to secure external research funding (a requirement for appointment at the Associate Professor level). You will have a clear vision for ambitious future research programs and the drive to secure external funding to build a research team in your area.

You will be a collaborative and positive individual who enjoys working with colleagues and students. You will be encouraged to seek opportunities to collaborate across the University and with other world-leading institutions.

You will have excellent communication skills and be enthusiastic about embracing innovative teaching practices. You will contribute to large taught modules across various engineering-related subjects and may also lead modules, taking responsibility for curriculum design, module-level assessment, and quality assurance. You will also be expected to lead and contribute to more specialist modules, potentially aligned with some of the research areas outlined above.

Due to restrictions around some of the funding associated with this post, security clearance is required for this job. Basic recruitment checks in keeping with the core principles of the UK government's Baseline Personnel Security Standard screening (BPSS) will be carried out and the candidate must be capable of achieving UK security clearance.
