  • About This Opportunity

    This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Political Science and International Studies as a Lecturer in Political Science (Teaching Focused). In this role, you will grow your teaching impact through leadership in course coordination aligned with UQ values. The successful candidate will engage in internal and external collaborations that influence teaching practices, policies, and/or knowledge.

    Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching: We seek a skilled and enthusiastic teacher with a commitment to inclusive classrooms and to outstanding pedagogic practices across curriculum and assessment design and the student experience. In this role you will develop, co-ordinate and deliver courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: We seek a colleague with a willingness to undertake high-quality Master and HDR supervision. In undertaking supervision, you will support the development of researchers by being responsive to the skills and networks that graduates seek to advance their careers.

  • Citizenship and Service: We seek a colleague with a demonstrated willingness to support the operational needs and vision of the school, and a commitment to the development of the broader discipline in Australia and beyond.

    About You

  • Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in Political Science

  • Evidence of high-quality university teaching in the discipline across a variety of settings, including small and large groups with course coordination responsibilities.

  • Evidence of capacity to teach key courses in global political theory, political economy and political philosophy and economics.

  • An emerging profile of teaching impact in the discipline and/or emerging profile in education research in the discipline and/or emerging research profile with high-quality outputs in the discipline.

  • Participation in projects that improve curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment practices of others, with funded projects being particularly desirable and/or A record of contributing successfully to applications for research funds.

  • Participation in curriculum development at the program and/or course level in the discipline area.

  • Evidence of the involvement in the supervision of honours and Research Higher Degree students (where appropriate) in education research and/or discipline research.

  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in teaching and learning.

  • A profile of professional expertise that complements and/or supplements the expertise that currently exists within the School and the broader University.

  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre- employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check.
