The Role

The School of Engineering and Built Environment is based in the College of Business, Technology and Engineering and encompasses a range of subject areas including Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, and construction project management.

We are recruiting for a Lecturer to join our existing Quantity Surveying team and welcome applications from candidates with practical experience in

  • Cost Planning / Commercial Management
  • Digital Construction
  • Measurement
  • Procurement and Contract Administration.

    Applicants should have an awareness of the current trends, issues, and developments in surveying

    both nationally and internationally, and will be expected to demonstrate an applied understanding of current industry developments during the selection process.

    The selection process will be in two phases – an initial telephone call brief (15 minute) online interview supplemented by a recruitment event expected to be conducted at our City Campus in Sheffield.

    You will be a key member of the Quantity Surveying team, helping to maintain and to expand the

    success of the department's courses in this area. Our Quantity Surveying courses are highly regarded across the profession and founded upon over 30 years of related teaching here at SHU.

    Our courses are accredited by the relevant professional bodies and staff members are encouraged to be active within them. Courses within our departmental portfolio are accredited by the following

    professional bodies: CIOB, RICS, CICES, RTPI, RIBA, CIAT and CABE.

    The School of Engineering and Built Environment

    The Built Environment is focused on understanding, designing and constructing the spaces and places of the contemporary world. We are specialists in education, industrial knowledge exchange and the practices of science, academic inquiry, research, technology and design required to address the key environment, social and technological challenges faced by humankind on earth.

    The Department has three disciplinary areas: Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Construction Project Management. Within the Built Environment we deliver Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Higher Degree Apprenticeship courses. We are strongly applied in our ethos and have links to public and

    private sector external organisations in construction, development and beyond. We have pioneered

    courses in conjunction with external partners, delivering the development of professional skills and

    knowledge.
