School of Nursing & Midwifery
Educating future leaders in healthcare delivery and related research is at the core of the school's mission. The key goal is to empower nurses and midwives to be able to demonstrate the difference that they make to practice, and in doing so, to be able to respond accordingly to the leadership and professional challenges that they face every day. The school is committed to providing students with outcome-focused curricula and the opportunity to develop professionalism, shaped by innovative teaching and learning practices.
This is a research active school, evidenced by the success of the Skin Wounds, and Trauma (SWaT) Research Centre at RCSI. This centre specialises in cutting-edge research in the field of wound healing and tissue repair.
Objective of these posts:
The school are seeking two Lecturer/Programme Directors to join the team, we are specifically seeking applicants with a background in one of the two following areas:
• Care of the older person nursing practice and education,
• Advanced nursing practice and education.
The post holders will help support the implementation of a range of nursing postgraduate specialist programmes. The principal objective of the posts is to lead and participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examining of each allocated programme. The successful candidates will assist with the delivery of the school's curriculum in the multi-cultural environment of RCSI Dublin, ensuring academic quality and consistency across the RCSI campus.
Specific Responsibilities include:
• Participating in the administration and delivery of current teaching programmes, teaching modalities and assessment for post graduate nursing students
• Undertaking collaborative research that complements and develops the school's academic status and reputation, and contributes to nursing practice and education
• Contributing to the development and introduction of new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment
• Liaising with colleagues across RCSI international campuses in the facilitation of research and teaching activities
• Mentoring students, and monitoring student assessment and progress
• Supervising postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level
• Participating in the development of RCSI's teaching and learning strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning
• Contributing to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing modules
• Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required
• Undertaking overseas assignments as may be required from time to time
• Employing a collaborative ethos in all aspects of academic practice
• Performing such other related duties as may be required
• Representing the best interests of the School and RCSI
Person Specification Essential:
• PhD degree or equivalent
• Has recent experience in:
• Care of the older person nursing practice/education
Or
• Advanced nursing practice/education
• Is registered or is potentially eligible to register as a nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland
• Has a track record in leadership in clinical practice or education
• Has a track record in research
• Has excellent computer, presentation, and verbal & written communication skills
• Has a strong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for postgraduate teaching and assessment

Person Specification Desirable:
• Has a recognised specialist nursing or midwifery qualification in care of the older person or advanced practice, which compliments the portfolio of programmes delivered in the school
• Has made a significant contribution to the development of specialist nursing/midwifery practice in terms of education, practice development and research
• Has an effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation
• Has a strong commitment to own personal and professional development
• Has excellent time-management skills in order to effectively progress across all three domains of responsibilities (teaching, research and service)
• Can build and maintain strong working relationships
• Has a proven ability for both independent and team work

The Process
