  • About the Roles

    As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to the teaching, research, and engagement efforts of the School in disciplines related to your field of expertise. Specifically, you will:

  • Conduct teaching activities across undergraduate, Masters, and Graduate Diploma programs.

  • Maintain and advance your scholarly, professional, and/or research capabilities.

  • Actively promote the program by building and maintaining memberships, links, and partnerships with academic, industry, and professional communities.

  • Collaborate collegially with fellow academics within the teaching team and keep colleagues and students informed of developments in your subject area or specialisation.

  • Take responsibility for course coordination where required.

  • As a Senior Lecturer, your role will extend to:

  • Making a significant contribution to program delivery and engaging in research, consulting, and other professional activities.

  • Leading high-quality research projects aligned with the University's focus areas, with the goal of securing research funding and producing impactful outputs.

  • Providing research leadership by embedding your expertise into the School's activities and establishing productive networks across RMIT and with local, national, and global partners.

  • Assuming responsibility for program management as required.

  • Your appointment may include strategic leadership roles within the School, such as participation in committees, fostering innovation, and shaping the School's strategic direction.

    About You

    To be successful for the Level B Lecturer appointment, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.

  • Ability to undertake course coordination role.

  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.

  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates.

  • Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • To be successful for the Level C Senior Lecturer appointment, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate large courses and prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including high quality curriculum and program materials and ability to implement innovative approaches to student-centred learning and quality improvement.

  • Ability to manage a large program or a number of small programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to support student issues related to effective learning.

  • Emerging nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets.

  • Experience in research leadership with the ability to build and develop collaborative research teams, mentor academic staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and secure external research funding to sustain research effort and manage funded research projects including complex budgets and reporting requirements.

  • Extensive experience in supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage academic program teams, supporting scholarly development of less experienced academic staff.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to financial, governance and quality management systems within a university.

  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.

  • Qualifications:

    Mandatory for Level B and C: PhD in a related field or approved AQF equivalency with relevant industry experience.

    About the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

    The Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering is one of the largest departments in the university. The department includes internationally renowned academics recognised for their fundamental and original contributions to the field and is highly successful in acquiring large amount of research grants supporting more than 50 researchers. The key research areas in the department include photonics, sensors & electronic, power & automation/control, and communication & networks.

    The Department offers three key undergraduate single degree programs; “Electrical Engineering', ‘Electronic & Computer Engineering' and ‘Software Engineering'; two double degree undergraduate programs and three postgraduate degree programs. The teaching areas in the programs range from

  • electrical, power, control and automation,

  • analog and digital electronics,

  • embedded, computer and software

  • communication and networks

  • The Department also delivers offshore teaching programs in Hong Kong and India. The department has a wide range of industry partnerships ranging from funded research projects, work integrated learning, student placements and student project co-supervisions. Our graduates are highly regarded by the industry for having extensive hands-on experience and practical knowledge delivered through our teaching programs using a vast range of state of the art laboratory facilities.
