Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Fixed term post – 2 years (January 2025 to December 2026)
We are looking for an enthusiastic Lecturer to join our Social Work Team. You will be part of the successful School of Psychology, Social Work, and Public Health and have the opportunity to work alongside experienced Social Work Lecturers and colleagues from the other disciplines in the School. The students and staff are from diverse backgrounds and we value collaboration and staff development. There are three qualifying Social Work programmes at Oxford Brookes University (BA (Hons), PG Diploma and MA), validated by Social Work England. This post will focus on practice learning, and will involve leading on placement modules, including, but not limited to, matching students to their placements and supporting with the teaching around placement preparation and practice skill development.
The post is at Lecturer level which is Grade 9 on the Oxford Brookes pay scale. https: // www. brookes.ac.uk/human-resources/working-here/pay-and- grading/pay-scale/.
Applicants are usually appointed at the bottom of the pay scale unless they can demonstrate skills or experience that are commensurate with a higher spine point.
Overall purpose of post:
● To deliver high-quality Social Work education to prepare students for employment
● To work with Social Work agencies and settings, and our stakeholders, to provide practice-based experiences that are positive for students
● To develop your own teaching and learning approaches to meet the diverse academic needs of our students
● To provide academic and pastoral support and guidance for students on placement, in collaboration with their practice educators.
Qualifications required:
Applicants should hold a qualification in Social Work or a related discipline and be registered with Social Work England.
You will also be required to undertake an enhanced disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. This will form a condition of employment.
Experience required:
For this post we need the following:
● Experience of supporting Social Work students in practice learning settings
● Excellent organisational skills
● The ability to use information technology to provide effective support and guidance to students and stakeholders
● Excellent networking abilities
● Current subject knowledge relevant to a pre-qualifying Social Work curriculum.
