  • About This Opportunity

    The newly established Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences will be an interdisciplinary powerhouse of innovation and collaboration to lead integrated solutions to the needs of the communities we serve locally and globally. UQ offers one of the widest ranges of health and behavioural sciences programs of any Australian university, and the ambition for this new Faculty will be to leverage its unified suite of esteemed schools, institutes and centres to unlock opportunities within UQ and with external partners.

    As the Manager, Health, Safety, and Wellness (HSW), you will champion a positive safety culture and drive HSW initiatives. You will provide expert advice and support to staff, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and university policies. Your role will involve overseeing risk management, incident investigation, and emergency preparedness, while collaborating with central HSW teams to implement strategic initiatives.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    HSW Advisory and Compliance

  • Provide expert advice on Work Health and Safety legislation.

  • Collaborate with HSW teams to ensure consistent implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Risk Management and Incident Response

  • Develop and implement HSW programs and projects.

  • Ensure hazards are identified, assessed, and controlled. Oversee incident investigations and reporting.

  • Stakeholder Engagement and Training

  • Coach and mentor staff to promote a positive safety culture.

  • Engage with regulators and university entities to support employees and managers. Audit HSW systems to ensure compliance.

  • About You
  • Relevant qualifications in workplace health and safety or a related field.

  • Significant experience in HSW management and delivery.

  • Strong understanding of HSW principles, legislation, and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and implement control measures.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders. Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.

  • You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
