About the role
The Bodleian Library's history of collecting Persian manuscripts (the collection numbers more than 2500 items) began in 1602, the year the Library was founded. Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services (BDLSS) are seeking a Metadata Analyst to work closely with curatorial colleagues to improve and enhance the metadata associated with these extensive collections.
You will be responsible for auditing, cleaning and improving the person and place authorities data within the online catalogue of Manuscripts from the Islamicate World (fihrist.bodleian.ox.ac.uk), while collaborating with colleagues in Asian and Middle Eastern collections and BDLSS to ensure consistency and compatibility of data. You will liaise with the Digital Bodleian (digital.bodleian.ox.ac.uk) team to review metadata for ingest as part of Persian collections digitization activities.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 6 months, working 37.5 hours per week. BDLSS offer flexible working arrangements including remote working. Some onsite working may be required for this role.
About You
You will have proven skills in some aspects of Persian manuscript studies or experience equivalent to those derived from holding a postgraduate degree, in some aspects of Persian manuscript studies
You will have a high standard of spoken and written English, and a strong reading knowledge of Persian in a variety of scripts.
You will have very strong IT skills, experience of working with TEI-XML or other mark-up languages and be comfortable working with digital data.
Experience of working on a cataloguing project is desirable.
