PhD Candidate/Student in regulation of translation
About this position:
We're excited to announce an open PhD student position in Gabriel Demo's Research Group!
Understanding the intricate mechanisms regulating ribosome maturation and translation under extreme or stress-induced conditions is vital for uncovering how cells adapt to challenging environments. This project will focus on investigating the molecular mechanisms behind ribosome maturation in bacteria and translation regulation in archaea under such conditions. The ultimate goal is to reveal the adaptation strategies that enable cell survival.
By employing state-of-the-art single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo- EM), the project will provide high-resolution structural insights into ribosomal assembly intermediates, stress-induced translation factors, and archaeal translation machinery under extreme conditions. This research is anticipated to significantly advance our understanding of cellular translation regulation and its role in stress and survival mechanisms.
The research will involve close collaboration with leading experimental teams and will be tailored to the interests and strengths of the candidate. We look forward to discussing this exciting opportunity and the project's scope further during the interview.
