The School of Business and Economics at Linnaeus University conducts research and education in business administration, economics, statistics, as well as law and tourism studies. Our mission is to help people grow through knowledge created by researchers, teachers, and students together. We contribute entrepreneurial thinking and sustainable solutions to complex organizational and societal problems. We take pride in our long-standing tradition of collaboration with the surrounding community and have been AACSB accredited since November 2022.The activities are conducted primarily on campus in Kalmar and Växjö, as well as digitally. Scope of Employment:
According to the Higher Education Ordinance, those employed as doctoral students should primarily devote themselves to their own education. However, an employee may work on teaching, research, and administration to a limited extent. Such work must not exceed 20% of full-time work before a doctoral degree is completed.
PhD Students in Economics The PhD education and thesis work in economics are closely linked to the theme of Equality of Opportunity and Big Data Analysis. High-quality and exciting research is conducted here with both national and international recognition, primarily in labor economics, public economics, microeconomics, and economic history. The research topics include intergenerational mobility, education, health, environment, policy evaluation, integration, and discrimination. The course program is conducted in collaboration with several other universities in Sweden. It includes first year courses in mathematics, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, as well as elective second year courses related to the thesis work. We offer supervision of high international quality and a stimulating intellectual work environment. The program prepares graduates for careers in academia, qualified roles in government departments and agencies, international organizations, and the private sector.

Eligibility Requirements
General Eligibility
General eligibility is fulfilled by those who:
- Have completed a degree at an advanced level in economics. - Have completed at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level, or have acquired equivalent knowledge within or outside of Sweden.
Specific Eligibility
Specific eligibility is fulfilled by those who:
- Have at least 90 credits in economics or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way within or outside Sweden. - Demonstrate good proficiency in English.
Eligibility requirements must be fulfilled at the time of admission but do not need to be fulfilled at the time of application. Applicants who expect to meet the general and specific eligibility requirements by early August are welcome to apply.
Assessment Criteria Selection is made based on the applicants' ability to benefit from the doctoral education. The assessment considers scientific competence, as documented in scientific work and course grades. The ability to collaborate and communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is also considered. Terms of Employment Doctoral employment is time-limited in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Section 7. The total employment period must not exceed what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years.
