The Finance Division is looking for a Portfolio Analyst to support the Head of Planning Portfolios across a diverse portfolio of education- and research- related projects during the maternity leave of the substantive post holder. As part of the Academic & Financial Planning & Analysis team (AFPA), you will play a vital role in the work of that team, to support the University's academic mission by enabling the development, prioritisation and implementation of academic and strategic plans within financially sustainable budgets.

The Role

The role facilitates the prioritisation and implementation of academic and capital plans, ensuring individual institutional plans are aligned and deliverable when consolidated at the level of the Academic University. The role is part of the Planning Portfolios section, which focuses its work across three portfolios:

  • Education and Research;
  • Professional Services and Collections;
  • Major Projects.
  • The role supports the Head of Planning Portfolios in preparing and managing the work of the University's Planning and Resources Committee (PRC), and provides professional support to a number of related boards and sub- committees. Current examples include the group that manages student numbers across the Collegiate University and the programme board for Reshaping our Estate.

    Your Skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage own workload.
  • Excellent oral communications skills, including the ability to liaise confidently with staff at all levels including academic and non-academic staff.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to summarise detailed and complex information in a concise and articulate way.
  • Strong analytical skills with an eye for detail and confident in understanding the significance of data and presenting the findings for general discussion.
  • An innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to generate and develop new ideas, and produce a concise, yet persuasive proposal.
  • Benefits

    The University offers an excellent benefit package including:

  • 41 inclusive of Bank Holidays
  • Defined benefits pension schemes
  • Flexible working options
  • Family-friendly initiatives
  • Career development opportunities
  • Support for health & mental wellbeing
  • Discounts on shopping
  • Rental deposit scheme
  • Public transport season ticket loans
  • Tax-efficient bicycle and charity-giving schemes
  • Location

    The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

    Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
