Medical Faculty of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, invites excellent scientists to apply for a two-year POSTDOC POSITION in Cell Biology and Glioblastoma Research

  • Our laboratory is focused on understanding the biology of glioblastoma with the ultimate goal of deciphering the molecular mechanisms driving this aggressive disease and setting up robust systems for drug testing and development. To achieve these goals, we use a variety of models, including glioblastoma cell lines, patient-derived samples, and advanced co-culture systems with human pluripotent stem cell-derived tumoroids.
  • Our ongoing research includes single-cell sequencing of these co-culture systems, with future experiments centered around exploring the underlying molecular pathways and identifying potential treatment strategies. We aim to establish reproducible 3D systems for drug testing to assess the efficacy of new therapeutics.
  • Our lab is an expert environment for studying stem cell biology and employing stem cell-based models for disease modeling in vitro. We have well-established methods and protocols for co-culture systems and are supported by active collaborations with clinicians who provide us with tumor samples.
  • Our team currently consists of 10 Postdoctoral Researchers (including 2 bioinformaticians), and 9 undergraduate and graduate students, all proficient in their respective fields.
  • The successful candidate should:

  • Hold a Ph.D. or its equivalent, awarded within the past 7 years, AND have worked in research in the field of cell biology, cancer biology, or a closely related area for at least 2 years of work, within the last 3 years , outside the Czech Republic (with a workload equivalent to at least 0.5 full-time employment)
  • Alternatively, hold a Ph.D. diploma (or equivalent) from an international institution awarded within the past 3 years
  • Demonstrate a strong publication record, with a minimum of three research outputs in the last three years, at least two of which are in Q1-ranked journals according to Web of Science
  • Specific qualifications include:

  • Have experience in working with glioblastoma models, cancer cell biology, or stem cell-based disease modeling
  • Be proficient in advanced cell culture techniques, such as 3D cultures and co-culture systems
  • Have prior experience in molecular biology techniques, such as RNA sequencing, Western blotting, qPCR, immunocytochemistry, or live-cell imaging
  • Show an aptitude for designing and executing drug testing protocols, including the analysis of therapeutic efficacy in 3D systems
  • Exhibit strong communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to collaborative research
  • Please submit an e-application, including:

  • A comprehensive CV detailing your publication history
  • A copy of your diploma
  • A brief description of your research focus and the specific topic you intend to investigate
  • Contact information for two referees
  • Documentation confirming a minimum of two full years of work outside the Czech Republic in the last three years or a Ph.D. diploma from a foreign institution
  • What we offer:

  • Access to Core Facilities and state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced imaging and sequencing technologies
  • A competitive salary commensurate with the candidate's experience and expertise
  • An initial two-year appointment with the possibility of extension
  • An outstanding research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment
  • The opportunity to collaborate with a professional team in a stimulating and supportive work environment
  • Participation in national and international collaborations, including opportunities for travel to conferences and short-term research stays (based on actual project needs)
